A bright light shone in her eyes and Medha jerked up. She looked around and realised that she was dreaming. She was drenched in sweat and her breathing was erratic. The beating of her heart and the sound of the train was all that she could hear.
Medha looked around and a message popped up on her phone. It read:
TASK RENEWED:
KILL THE LADY SLEEPING IN THE SEAT NEXT TO YOU.
The same horrific icon popped up on the screen. She deleted the game but the icon came up again. Deleted, same icon, deleted, same icon. This continues for a long time. At last, Medha dropped her phone on her seat and made her way towards the washroom. She stood in front of the mirror and splashed some water on her face. Just as she looked up, she saw that same pair of eyes, now a dark shadow behind her with that same bloodied axe from the game. Her eyes widened but before she could actually, that shadow moved ahead and it felt as if it entered Medha's body. Her eyes turned red and she stared at her reflection. As if she lost control of her body, she banged her head on the mirror. Once, twice, thrice. Blood dripped from her forehead and the mirror cracked. She banged her head once more as loud noises surrounded her. Loud whispers saying, "Complete your tasks", " Do what you are told", " There is no going back anymore". Her head was throbbing.
She jerked awake. She was having a splitting headache. Her phone lit up with the message:
TASK PENDING:
IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE YOUR TASK, THESE DREAMS MIGHT BECOME YOUR REALITY.
Medha's throat dried up as she looked at the lady sleeping on the seat beside her.
The next morning, Medha reached home. All her family members welcomed her warmly. The TV was on and her father was watching the news, while the following headlines flashed across the screen:
A LADY FOUND DEAD IN HER SEAT ON THE TRAIN FROM VARANASI TO BHOPAL.
Medha gulped hard and looked at her phone as a message read:
WELL DONE! TASK COMPLETED.
GAME OVER....
