After a span of 10 minutes, Soumi turned in her sleep when she heard someone whisper her name, "Soumi". Her eyes flew open and she felt someone breathing near her shoulder, and the same voice whispered out her name. Soumi's heartbeat quickened and she turned around, but saw nothing except for her husband's sleeping figure. Just as Soumi turned back, a pair of glimmering eyes shone through the darkness and a low shriek escaped her lips. But soon a meowing sound followed and she realised that it was Kuku, the family cat.
She sat up to calm her racing heart, and that's when the window opposite the bed threw open. Soumi got up, walked to the window, and closed it. She turned to go back to bed when she bumped into Samir's chest. Samir's hazel eyes bore into her coal-black ones.
"Come with me, I'll show you something," Samir said with a grim expression. It was as if he had cast a hypnotizing effect on Soumi, and she followed him as he led the way towards the terrace.
Samir walked up to the railing of the terrace, climbed it, and with a fleeting look at Soumi, jumped. Soumi's reverie broke, and when she realised what happened, she ran towards the railing and shouted Samir's name. She looked down expecting a horrible sight, but there was nothing. Shaken from this incident, she turned back and saw a black crow with gleaming red eyes. A shiver ran down her spine and an unknown fear settled into the pit of her stomach.
With bated breath and shaking limbs, Soumi walked back to her room, and what she saw there shocked her to the core. Samir lay where she had left him. He was on the bed, fast asleep, unaware of the storm that had started in his wife's life.
